Gary Szerman, our company founder, holds 2 design patents for GROUND FAULT CIRCUIT INTERRUPTERS operating on 115 VAC, 400 Hz. The initial design was requested by a major US airline to protect its flight attendants working in galley areas. There were several instances of flight attendants suffering electrical shock due to aging wiring and other hazards located in and around the galley. It was very difficult to develop a GFCI that possessed the high speed switching capability to operate at 400 Hz. After several years in development, the final design was submitted to the US Government Patents Office and patent number 5,835,322 was issued on November 10, 1998. A few years later, another major US airline asked Avia-Dynamics to design a GFCI to protect the passengers in first and business-class seats of larger long-haul commercial aircraft. This resulted in a different GFCI design which was granted patent number 6,731,482 B2 on May 4, 2004.
